Grade 7 Math: "The World of Pre-Algebra" Course Description

Get ready for Pre-Algebra! This course lays the essential groundwork for success in Algebra 1 by diving deep into proportional relationships, operations with rational numbers (including negative fractions and decimals), and working with expressions and linear equations. Students will learn to approach complex, multi-step problems with confidence and precision, turning real-world scenarios into mathematical expressions they can solve.

What We'll Explore:

Proportional Relationships: We'll analyze real-world deals to see if they are proportional. For example: "Is it a better deal to buy 3 apples for $2 or 5 apples for $3?" We'll learn to identify the constant of proportionality, also known as the unit rate.

Operations with Rational Numbers: We'll master calculations with all types of numbers. For example: "If you have $50.25 in your account and you spend $65.50, what is your new balance?"

Simplifying Expressions: WWe'll learn how to combine like terms to make complex expressions simpler. For example, we'll turn an expression like 3x + 5 - x + 2 into its simpler form, 2x + 7.

Solving Two-Step Equations: We'll build on one-step equations to solve more complex problems, like finding the original price of a shirt that's on sale for 20% off and now costs $16.

Grade 7 Math: "The World of Pre-Algebra" Class Schedule

Our calendar operates on a two-week rotating schedule (Week A & Week B).To create an immersive and focused learning environment, we have designated Math Days (Mon/Wed/Fri) and ELA Days (Tue/Thu). This structure is designed for maximum flexibility - sessions held in the morning during Week A will be in the afternoon during Week B, so you can always find a time that works. All times are in MST.
